The Nissan Micra is a small subcompact built to fit the lowest new car budget. This car boasts of being the cheapest car on sale in some countries and especially in North America. The base model is affordably priced and hence provides a great option for students and young adults who do a lot of driving in and around the city.
Engine and Performance
This subcompact is equipped with a capable 1.6 litre, four-cylinder engine that is more than enough for the cars intended use. To provide the needed forward thrust in city driving, the Nissan Micra pumps out at 4400rpm, 107-pound feet torque. This will eliminate the need to rev the engine unnecessarily all the time. This subcompact either comes with a 5-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic transmission distributing power to the front wheels. As a point of note, auto testers seem to agree that the manual transmission on the base model provides a better drive as compared to the automatic variant.
Drivability and Fuel Efficiency
The Nissan Micra comes with small tires characteristic of subcompacts and thus means that driving heroics will not be possible, but this car is not built for that. It is important to note that this Nissan is quite adept at absorbing bumps better than other subcompacts thanks to its upgraded all round suspension. While driving on the highway, the Micra will not dart around as much as other subcompacts. Efficiency numbers are pegged at 6.8L for every 100 km on the highway and 8.6L per 100 km in the city for the manual transmission. While the automatic Micra returns 8.8L per 100km in the city and 6.6L per 100km on the highway.
Interior and Features
The base Nissan Micra comes with cloth seats, a five-speed manual transmission, manual wind up windows and manual side mirrors. Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control as well as traction control, ABS, and tilt steering. Other features included in the base model are a radio with CD player and an auxiliary audio input jack. The front seats have ample spacing while the rear seats are somewhat confined as is the case with most subcompacts. The cargo space is 407.8 litres, which can be increased by folding down the rear seat.
